MYSTICISM

The Book of Exodus – Revelation & Revolution - Rabbi Gershon Winkler
The Jewish people’s rich and ancient history is deeply embedded in this dramatic and highly controversial segment of the Torah, a story of a people’s relentless struggle with bondage and deliverance, commitment and betrayal, faith and doubt, miracles and obstacles, revelation and revolution. Drawing from ancient Hebraic and Aramaic oral traditions, mystery wisdom, and lore of the Talmud, Midrash, and Kabbalah, Rabbi Gershon guides us across ever-winding paths of spell-binding intrigue as we are introduced to the stories behind the stories, lessons beneath lessons, concepts underlying concepts – deepening our understanding of Judaism and its tumultuous but successful evolution.

A Candid Conversation about Israel: A Class for Zionists
American Jews who support Israel are becoming an endangered breed. American Zionists are put in the difficult position of supporting the State of Israel while sometimes deploring its actions. Yet we need to learn and speak candidly and clearly about what is right and wrong in our beloved Jewish state. This course will tackle the difficult issues surrounding the Peace Process, the West Bank settlements, the Golan Heights, Jerusalem and more. Come ready for frank and civil discourse as we explore issues, discuss historical and current realities and try to determine how to support Israel without becoming mere apologists.
Tuesdays, 7:30 – 9:00 p.m.
Jan. 5,12,19,26
No donation requested Non-members: $24

ADULT CONFIRMATION CLASS

Haftarah Chanting - Taught by Arlene Defren
A portion of text from the books of Prophets is read every Shabbat and holiday. Haftarah has its own trope, its own system of cantillation different from Torah trope or the Megillah. This class can be seen as a continuation of the Torah Chanting class.
